Our hearts swell with gratitude at the return of warm weather and longer days. While this also correlates to longer work hours on the farm, we can’t help but relish the beauty as it unfolds before us. Our laying hens are happily spending most of their time trying to keep up with the growing grass as we enjoy the deepening color of their egg yolks. Our neighbor brought in 20 pairs of cow/calves recently to help with the task of eating down the lush pastures. The cows will be here through the summer and will return to their home barns before the wet weather which saves us from over-wintering them. Turkey poults should arrive on the farm soon and a few piglets are rooting up a ruckus in the woods. You may notice that we have simplified a few of our animal species this season; we don’t plan to offer duck eggs or chicken. We will have Holiday Turkeys, shares in beef and pork and eggs.
Farmer’s Market Update: This year, we plan to wait until September to offer our meats at the Beaverton and PSU Farmer’s (Saturday) Markets and to better promote our Thanksgiving Turkeys. In the meantime, you can order beef/pork shares online and purchase our eggs at most New Seasons Markets.
